The Contemporaries have produced a major fundraiser each year since 1975, contributing over $2,183,411 to the Cultural Activities Center. The event was originally called “Tamasha,” and the first auction in 1975 raised $7,250. In combination with other fundraising efforts, in 2010, The Contemporaries donated $90,000 to the CAC.
In 1995 the format was changed to a western theme called “Diamonds, Denim and Dice.” In a continuing evolution of the group’s efforts to raise funds, in 2004 a new and exciting event was implemented and called “The Contemporaries’ Gala: a Celebration of the Arts.” Local merchants, artists, and individuals have been most generous in donating items for a Live and Silent Auction, which includes works of art, services, vacation homes and parties to be auctioned. Membership work for many months preparing for this extravagant event. The Gala is the highlight of the year, which enables the members to provide on-going, dynamic support to the many programs and services provided by the group at the CAC.
The Gala celebrates the continuation of the arts in Temple and Central Texas. Guests will experience a seated dinner, followed by live entertainment and the chance to bid on many fantastic items of interest. The Gala is a glamorous and exciting evening, but more important, 100% of the funds raised the night of the Gala, are donated directly to the CAC.
While individual members’ time commitment to the various projects varies, the members enjoy a close and friendly association with any committee they choose to work on. It’s a great way to make new friends and have a wonderful time while contributing to such a worthy cause, the children, and community of the Bell County area.
